Darren Hyson


Currently serves as a Information Technology Committee (IT) Chair/webmaster, and SCR Corresponding Secretary.Executive Board member and Corresponding Secretary for the Austin African-American Firefighters Association.Past LBJ Fire Academy Lead instructor 5 years. Current Explorer Post 370 Coordinator. Austin Fire Dept Firefighter in Operations 16+ years service. Depatrtment CPR Instructor, Battalion Medical Instructor, AFD Curriculum Committee Member, TCFP Instructor II Certified, City of Austin Leadership,Education and Public Service program (LEAPS) Graduate 2005.

Darren Hyson works with Webvertise, the hosting company for the IABPFF and several of it's regions and chapters, and has been programming since the mid 80s starting out with writing simple programs with his Commodore 64. This early interest prompted him to seek a formal education in Computer Science at Louisiana State University where he was a member of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) and Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) clubs (1987-1988). While involved with those organizations he participated and won awards in programming contests. Mr. Hyson has received City recognition through Austin's major newspaper for the design of a web site for the church in the Austin American Statesman March 22nd, 1997 & 1998 issue in the Business and Personal Technology section. Mr. Hyson has experience with computer debugging and database creation with the United States Air Force, and worked at IBM before becoming a Firefighter with the city of Austin in Austin, Texas. He is also a member of the HTML Writers Guild and the National Black MBA Association. Mr. Hyson has a high level of commitment to excellence and customer service. 26 years United States Air Force Medic - SMSgt (E8) assigned to the 433rd Alamo Wing AMDS Squadron , Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Active duty for 6 years at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, Texas. Supported and deployed to Bosnia Conflict 1995.
